Upgrading BlackBerry 8520(Curve 2) OS Software, Things You Should Note

A couple of times friends and blog readers have asked me if a blackberry curve 8520 (curve 2) can be upgraded and I simply reply them saying ‘am not sure’ but the truth is, ‘Yes’ it can be upgraded but there are advantages and disadvantages.

I actually upgraded my curve 2 OS software some couple of days back just to do an experiment on the device and I can simply say it isn’t all that cool.

To be candid, i sort of regret why i did the upgrade in the first place but on another hand, its cool to do some experiment especially on devices you know you can ditch anytime.

Things To Note When Upgrading BlackBerry 8520(Curve 2)

First, let me make this straight when upgrading your BB curve device, you are actually upgrading its software(OS) and not the phone as even after upgrade, the device just remains the same with features but with some little changes.

There are Advantages And Disadvantages and I do like to start with its advantages first.

Advantages Of Upgrading BB 8520(Curve 2)

1. After upgrading my bb, I realized that the phone no longer shows the please wait symbol every time like it used to show, what this implies is that, it barely shows now although it still shows but does not take time.

2. The Device now works faster than before, please don’t get me wrong here, the booting on still takes time like it used to do but the device now performs faster in-terms of usage.

3. The battery now lasts better than before, even with bis enabled on the device, it takes me over 8hours but I really can’t say how long it stays when on battery low because even since I flashed it I haven’t allowed it to turn off.

Disadvantage:

I haven’t encountered any other disadvantage more than one and that’s the fact that I can no longer play music or video files on my device.

The device after upgrading its operating system software(OS) still have all features in tact other than playing music and video files and that sucks because that’s the second function I use the phone for most times although am hoping downgrading the device back to its previous version will fix it up.
